Description: Position Summary: The Purchasing Manager will plan, administer and direct the purchase of materials and supplies while meeting the requirements of production schedules through sound purchasing practices and proper supplier relationships. Essential Functions / Responsibilities: ' Develop the skills and knowledge of assigned personnel to maximize value from the purchasing department resources. ' Responsible for proper supplier compliance to current regulations, maintain and implement Small Business Administration initiatives, requirements, procedures, and reporting. ' Communicate with suppliers regarding the critical delivery needs, major contractors, major material reject problems and new products or processes which might offer major cost reductions. ' Review quoting and sourcing activities to ensure quality and delivery needs are constantly met as well as competitive pricing as required. ' Develop, negotiate and implement a comprehensive make-or-buy policy across all current in-house manufacturing processes. ' Review the material cost variances of purchased parts to ensure that materials are being purchased at proper pricing levels and recognize pricing trends affecting future pricing forecasting. ' Review shortages to ensure that the best possible delivery date is being obtained. Take appropriate action to prevent future shortages. ' Review and discuss pricing forecast. Achieve cost saving goals, monitor open defective material reports and corrective action reports to ensure a timely disposition of rejected goods and timely responses. ' Produce on a regular timescale, financial review information for projects released for ordering, projects pending release from Engineering and defined future aspects. ' Ensure that all work carried out conforms to the company's quality assurance procedures. ' Work with Quality Assurance to develop a point of manufacture quality assurance practice with suppliers to minimize incoming goods inspection. ' Ensure that all business relations between the unit and the supplier are carried out expeditiously and in a professional manner. ' Maintain relations with all other departments to keep purchasing personnel abreast of new product releases, quality trends and changes in the material input plan, etc. ' Maintain communication with other units and Corporate Purchasing in order to maximize the full potential of corporate leveraging. ' Develop and maintain inventory programs that are in alignment with the company's inventory reduction objectives. ' Administer the logistics of transporting product from the suppliers to the point of use. ' Adopt and implement lean manufacturing practices within the organization. The development and expansion of Kanbans internally and externally will be required to reduce manufacturing cycle time. ' Other duties as requested. Qualifications / Requirements Education and Experience Requirements: Position requires self motivated individual who takes responsibility for actions and is accountable for bottom line results. ' 5-7 years experience in Industrial Purchasing. ' BA Degree required. ' CPM preferred ' Knowledge of ITAR requirements preferred Demonstrated Skills: ' Must be familiar with mechanical terminology, component parts and manufacturing operations. ' Must understand the basic principles of packaging, marketing, accounting, planning, production, and material control. ' Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. ' Excellent communication skills. ' Six Sigma / Lean training preferred. Experience Requirements: See Above
