Mechanical Engineer - Advanced Battery Technology

Description:
This position is responsible for the mechanical engineering work activities needed to design, develop, and support high voltage battery systems and cells for hybrid vehicle OEMs.Specify and design mechanical components and sub-assemblies - Specify or design and develop components for a full BOM including formed metal parts, injection molded rubber / plastic components, labels, machined / cast metal parts, structural items, fans, fasteners, gaskets, clips, and other hardware.Develop relationships with suppliers to help generate component specifications and to perform make vs. buy analysis.Assist in the development of relationships and requirements for engineering service suppliers.Design for manufacturability (DFM) to ensure that the design of all components, sub-systems, and battery system optimizes the manufacturing process at the sub-assembly, battery system assembly, and vehicle level assembly. Ensure that the design of all components facilitates handling throughout the product life cycle from shipping through disassembly and recycling.Utilize company standard practices for engineering design and project work including PDfSS, FMEA, and other divisional tools / processes.Assist in establishing a quality system - Support APQP efforts to ensure the delivery of a quality finished product and process. Assist in the development and implementation of a control plan.Manage engineering documentation to ensure a sensible archive of information including engineering calculations, engineering drawings, intellectual property, DFMEAs, validation reports, meeting minutes, trip reports, supplier evaluations, and customer documents / communication.Generate and test plans (DVPR) for mechanical and durability related requirements. Ensure that designs meet expected functions and failure modes in the full validation of component, sub-assemblies, and battery systems.Assist in the assembly and test of battery cells and systems or prototypes for low volume programs or experiments.Provide technical direction to designers, engineers, suppliers, and support personnel as needed.
