Construction Superintendent 2010-2011 Raytheon Polar Services - Experience Antarctica Seeking a unique adventure as well as employment? How would you like to be one of the few people on the planet to have the opportunity to live and work in Antarctica? Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation's (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are currently seeking Construction Superintendents to deploy to McMurdo, South Pole or Palmer Antarctic research stations on a contract basis beginning in approximately August of 2010. There are three lengths for the contracts: Summer-(Approximately) August or October through February, Winter-(Approximately) February through October, and Year-Long-(Approximately) October through October. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements. The Construction Superintendent is responsible for executing and supervising construction projects in Antarctica, including the planning and scheduling of work loads, resources and equipment needed to maintain on time and on budget delivery of construction projects. Also responsible for supervising Raytheon Craft foreman and labor forces associated with project. Responsible for assessing, organizing and expediting all project materials and seeing that material procurements falls in cadence with construction schedules. Deals directly with the Facilities, Engineering, Maintenance and Construction (FEMC) Manager and delegates work among project teams. Works well with others and is capable of working in a team environment that encourages constructive process, innovative thinking and can-do attitude. Duties Include: * Maintain a safe work place by enforcing all company and OSHA regulations. * Develops a "SAFETY COMES FIRST" attitude on the jobsite, implement and conduct on the job Safety training and meetings. * Builds and maintains labor force in accordance with project resource loading and scheduling. * Oversees and directs all jobsite field personnel. * Prepares Daily Construction Reports and forecasting so as to minimize surprises and track progress. * Builds and maintains project master schedules as well as 2-week look ahead schedule. Reads, interprets and meets all requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards. * Maintain estimated and/or specified job schedule. * Tracks labor cost through the weekly labor reports. * Tracks material and other job costs through the monthly labor report. * Assists superintendents and foreman in the preparation of construction methods, schedules, manpower charts, material and equipment requirements. * Directs and oversees subcontractor safety, quality, and schedule. * Coordinates equipment deliveries with project engineers and/or construction manager. * Oversees and approves weekly time cards and field production reports. * Develops and maintains positive relations and communications with engineers, owners, representatives and job site inspectors. * Represents company in a professional manner. * Recognizes possible value engineering ideas. * Analyzes and solves problems as they surface. * Develops complete understanding of contract plans and specifications. * Examines, inspects field conditions and identifies problems, inaccuracies and cost saving measures that arise or may be encountered. * Evaluates directions and suggestions from others regarding safe and proper work practices. Delegate and implement plans for carrying out duties. * Identifies, Implements, Maintains and Rewards a ZERO accident as well as ZERO Rework system. * Accomplishes project planning, scheduling, materials take-offs, and direct supervision over project activities and resources. Coordinates with on-ice managers and supervisors for project support and collaboration. * Keeps the Construction Manager informed of status of projects and other activities, and assists in development of program plans and budgets. * Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates to relay information needed to be successful. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices. * Performs candid and constructive employee performance evaluations that provides the employee with skill sets guidelines and areas of needed improvement as well as positive feedback. * Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. Required Experience * Minimum of five years of experience at a supervisor or manager level with a progressive increase in responsibility supervising labor or trades foremen and trades persons, project scheduling, and project cost estimating is required. * Bachelors degree is required. BA/BS degree in Management or related discipline is preferred. Equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
