NATURE OF WORK: This is inspection work in the enforcement of municipal codes and ordinances relative to the installation of electrical systems and equipment. Work involves inspecting electrical installations and maintaining city, state, and national standards as to quality of materials, workmanship, and adherence to safety regulations. Employees ordinarily work alone in the field and are responsible to make independent decisions, subject to periodic review by superiors. REQUIREMENTS:  (The knowledge, skills, and abilities belowe may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.) High school diploma or its equivalent AND Four years of experience as a journey level electrician on a variety of construction projects. Must possess an electrical inspector’s certificate of qualification as defined in the State Electrical Act within the probationary period. Must possess a journey level electrician's license issued by the City of Omaha or the State of Nebraska. Must be able to drive or arrange transportation to work sites throughout the City during the course of the work day. POSITION ALSO REQUIRES: Knowledge of the materials and practices involved in the proper installation, maintenance, and operation of electrical equipment and appliances. Knowledge of city, state, and national standards relative to electrical installations and appliances. Ability to identify and locate defective construction or equipment and the ability to recommend corrective action. Ability to read and interpret construction and wiring blueprints, drawings, and schematics. Ability to understand written or oral instructions. NATURE OF WORK: This is inspection work in enforcement of municipal codes and ordinances pertaining to hydronic heating and cooling systems, boilers, and pressurized vessels. Work also involves the inspection of water piping, radiators, gas storage tanks, fire lines, sprinkler systems, air compression systems, and fuel and exhaust systems of standby power generators. Employees in this class work alone and are responsible to make independent decisions, subject to periodic review by supervisors. REQUIREMENTS:   Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND Seven years of experience as a journey level steam fitter in the installation of boilers and pressure vessels or seven years of experience as a first grade stationary engineer in the operation of boilers and pressure vessels.  Must possess a valid first grade stationary engineer’s license or a journey level steam fitter’s license issued by the City of Omaha for a minimum of seven years. Must be able to transport oneself or to coordinate transportation to work sites throughout the City during the course of the work day. POSITION ALSO REQUIRES: Knowledge of steam and pipe fitting installation and repair materials and procedures. Knowledge of the construction and maintenance of boilers and other pressure vessels. Knowledge of the codes and ordinances regulating the installation and operation of boilers and pressure vessels, installation and repair of hydronic heating and cooling systems, and the installation and placement of flammable liquid storage tanks, compressed gas storage, fuels and exhaust systems. Knowledge of safety standards pertaining to the installation of boilers and pressure vessels, hydronic heating and cooling systems, flammable liquid storage tanks, and compressed gas storage tanks. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints quickly and accurately, and to compare them with building in progress. The selected candidate will provide submissions of new setups, end of runs, continuations & repaired tools. They will provide in-process inspection, final goods audit and scrap recording, recording end-of-run information into computer, writing of inspection standards, training of new employees, and working knowledge of SPC I and II. An Associate degree in Manufacturing Engineering is preferred, and 2-3 years Q.C. inspection experience, including training and application of SPC principles is required. Computer software experience including spreadsheets/word processing, and the ability to read blue prints is also required.
