Painter and Paperhanger (construction and maintenance) Jobs in Virginia

Cover walls and other surfaces with paint or wallpaper. Painters are proficient with a wide range of tools— including handbrushes, rollers, and sprayers— and materials— such as primers, paints, and stains. Some jobs may require them to raise and stand on scaffolding or ladders. Before applying the paint, they prepare the area to be covered, filling any cracks with putty or plaster and sanding until the entire surface is smooth. Those engaged in maintenance must also remove old paint before spreading the new coat, while construction work focuses solely on new, never-before-painted buildings.

Paperhangers also cover walls for protection and appearance. They use special adhesive to apply wallpaper, smoothing strips with brushes and rollers to remove wrinkles or bubbles and keeping a close eye on the alignment of section edges and patterns. Additionally, paperhangers may attach posters to surfaces like walls or billboards.
