Position Summary: Be the lead inspector with potential responsibility to supervise and manage the efforts of other Harris construction inspectors. Monitor contractor’s work and the construction progress to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and schedule.Position Responsibilities: Position responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Scheduling, planning, coordinating, and performing daily site inspections individually or with other inspectors, to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications and codes. Coordinate 3rd-party special material testing inspections. Measure and record pay quantities Monitor time & material (T&M) work. Prepare comprehensive and concise daily reports that reflect the day’s construction activities with abundant detail. Manage project photographic records. Maintain up-to-date project records, as delegated by construction manager. This can include as-built drawings, material testing reports, miscellaneous inspection and testing reports, item quantity files, and others as determined by construction manager. Provide daily site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications and codes. Develop and issue Notices of Non-compliance and stop-work orders. Confer with the contractor, designer, owner, and/or relevant authorities to explain the basis for the issuance of the above referenced notices and most importantly, to discuss acceptable corrective actions. Utilize survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures, and test equipment.Qualifications:Spend considerable time in the field reviewing contractor’s work procedures and methods. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Supervision and evaluation of inspectors under your direct control. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Be willing to travel to off site locations to confirm that shop fabricated items are being produced in accordance with approved plans and specifications.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of roadway, highway, civil structure, or building construction practices. Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusion or approaches to problems. Must be able to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing. Ability to work in a team environment. To enter, transcribe, record, store and maintain information in written and electronic forms. In-depth knowledge of codes and regulations. Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications. Ability to supervise teams of inspectors and to mentor new inspectors to prepare them for future assignments.Requirements:Minimum of 10 years construction experience as an inspector on roadway/highway improvement projects involving bridges. NDOT roadway/highway/standards experience required. Inspection certifications recommended, e.g. ICC, ACI, CPII, CPESC, CRSI, AWS, etc. A high school diploma or GED equivalent education.
