Sheet Metal (including Duct Installer) Jobs in Tallahassee, Florida

Assemble and install components made from thin sheets of metal or a nonmetallic substitute. Sheet metal workers are responsible for reading blueprints and building specifications so that they can mark accurate reference lines and cut, bend, and fasten the sheets according to plan. Prefabricated parts are usually assembled on site by welding, bolting, riveting, or soldering the pieces together. These personnel use a wide range of tools, including computer-controlled saws, lasers, and shears.

One of the most difficult parts of a sheet metal worker’s job is manipulating the large, cumbersome parts into place for installation and anchoring them there. They must be able to do this in a variety of situations and environments, from high on a ladder for rain gutters to by the side of the road for street signs. The most common type of job, however, takes place inside, crafting ductwork for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
