Southern Cross Corp. has immediate openings for Natural Gas Leak Survey Technicians.Work Schedule: Mon-Fri (Sat)Work Location: Baltimore, MD Primary Duties and Responsibilities:·Report to Gas Company as a representative of Southern Cross Corp. ·Job entails extensive walking over varying terrain, and in varying weather conditions.·Detect, locate, and evaluate leaks using prescribed procedures. ·Report leaks to Gas Company under contract. ·Complete required paperwork and sketches. ·Read Gas Company maps. ·Perform light manual labor. Follow all safety guidelines. Assist in training survey technician trainees and others. ·Survey Technician is responsible for the proper operation, field maintenance, and security of all assigned equipment. Experience is an asset, but not mandatory. Education/Special Skills: ·High School Diploma or equivalent; valid Driver's License.·Must have legible neat handwriting and be able to do simple location sketches.·Must be able to read, write and understand English. Equipment/Machinery/Vehicle Used: ·Company provided Flame Pack, Fuel Cylinder (45 lbs.), Combustible Gas Indicator, Probe Bar, Pipe Locator, and others as assigned. Interrelationship and/or Supervisory Skills Needed:·Must be able to make decisions concerning the safety of a leakage situation and report these to the Gas Company. ·Must enter private property searching for leaks and be able to respond to questions from the public without causing undue anxiety. ·Must be able to coordinate survey with Gas Company personnel.Training: Company provided and paid training. Description: The candidate will work independently to conduct topo, as-built, construction, and stakeout surveys, as well as high-resolution surveys of project features using a laser scanner. Survey data is applied to engineering design and scientific analysis for environmental investigation, characterization, and remediation at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The candidate must understand the fundamental concepts of geography and geodesy and have a strong working knowledge of concepts and processes associated with survey and mapping grade global positioning systems, total stations, and laser scanners. The candidate will work with scientists and engineers to develop strategies for geographic location of project features in the field and to develop innovative methods of establishing control in challenging environments. The candidate will use geographic information systems (GIS) or computer-aided design (CAD) to document, display, process, and analyze survey data. The candidate will also consult clients and provide technical direction to team members to increase efficiency and deliver products of the highest quality. Candidate must be willing to perform under strenuous and adverse field conditions in areas requiring 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and must occasionally work extended hours to meet project deadlines.
