Assistant Superintendent of Rolling Stock and Shops Maintenance

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Rolling Stock and Shops, the Assistant Superintendent of Rolling Stock and Shops will be responsible for, through subordinate professionals, planning and coordinating preventive maintenance, repair, modification, and inspection of fixed rail transit vehicles.  The selected candidate will plan and coordinate shop activities including staffing and scheduling; provide responsible support to the Superintendent of Rolling Stock and Shops; and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Superintendent of Rolling Stock and Shops.

The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a track record of successfully supervising and managing reliability and quality initiatives in a rail transit vehicle repair shop, demonstrating the ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with union-represented personnel, ensuring collaboration and mutual respect, and demonstrating experience in conducting comprehensive investigations into accidents, unusual occurrences, identifying root causes, and showcasing their commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical maintenance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
 
Experience:
Five (5) years of (full-time) professional verifiable experience in fixed rail vehicle maintenance or related experience which must include at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
 
Substitution:
Additional professional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis. A college degree is preferred.

Other Requirements
Responsible and on-call for revenue vehicle and shop problems 24 hours, 7 days per week.
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
