Incumbents install and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures in municipal buildings, grounds and facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Maintains all aspects of irrigation systems; Installs, alters and replaces valves, faucets, traps, sinks, washbowls, sewer pipes, vents, bathrooms and/or kitchen fittings.

Performs work as Journeyman Plumber and in the installation and maintenance of plumbing systems and fixtures in Parks, park buildings and recreation centers.

Cuts, bends, threads, reams, assembles, caulks, wipes and solders pipe fitting and joints.

Clears clogged sewers, toilets, sinks and water coolers.

Responsible for current City of St. Louis Journeyman Plumbers license and state of Missouri license to test and service backflow preventers at all times.

Check vehicle and equipment before operating.

Other duties as assigned.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as saws, drills, threading equipment, cutting torch, welder, wrenches and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as work requests, work logs, purchase orders, blueprints, diagrams and general operating manuals.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages, and decimals; may require the ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; calculate surface areas and volumes.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.

Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to lift, push and pull over one hundred (100) pounds to install plumbing fixtures, pipes and other components. Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, climb, bend and twist to install, maintain and repair plumbing systems.

Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of sounds and odors with job-related objects, materials and tasks. Incumbents trace system leaks by identifying differences in sounds and by odor.

Qualifications

Licenses: Must possess and maintain a Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber License in the City of St. Louis while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must be licensed as a Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber in the City of St. Louis at the time of filing application and be able to present license upon request.

Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request. Veterans Preference Points

City Residence Preference Points

City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
