The Plumbing Superintendent plays a critical leadership role on complex BLHI projects, overseeing all aspects of the plumbing scope. This individual is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of plumbing systems installation in accordance with project plans, specifications, safety standards, and schedule requirements.
They serve as the on-site expert for plumbing systems, managing subcontractors, ensuring quality installations, and coordinating closely with project management, other trades, and external inspectors. Their work is essential in delivering high-quality, code-compliant mechanical systems that meet project goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all on-site plumbing activities, ensuring installations align with construction documents, codes, and safety standards.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, MEP and other superintendents to ensure smooth sequencing of work across trades.
- Monitor schedule milestones for plumbing and adjust daily/weekly tasks to meet overall project deadlines.
- Oversee plumbing subcontractors and self-perform crews, ensuring proper manpower levels, productivity, and adherence to specifications.
- Proactively resolve field conflicts and discrepancies through coordination and clear communication.
- Review and understand shop drawings, submittals, and coordination drawings to verify field installations match approved documents.
- Ensure inspections are scheduled, passed, and documented with local authorities and third-party code officials.
- Maintain accurate daily logs and reports of manpower, progress, inspections, and issues.
- Enforce and model jobsite safety procedures, holding crews accountable for maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Support commissioning efforts and assist with system testing, startup, and punch list resolution.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of plumbing experience in commercial or industrial construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, installation methods, and sequencing.
- Proven ability to manage subcontractors and field personnel in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; capable of interacting with project teams, inspectors, and clients.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred; additional safety training or licensure (Journeyman/Master Plumber) a plus.
- Experience with federal or government work (e.g., Corps of Engineers, NAVFAC) strongly preferred.
