DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Equipment Operator with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, your role is vital in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our roadways, especially during the challenging winter months when snow removal is essential. Your responsibilities go beyond snow clearance; you also play a key part in various construction projects that improve infrastructure and safeguard public safety. Each day presents new physical challenges, including traffic control duties as a flagger, cleaning culverts, mowing grass, trimming brush, erecting signs, digging ditches, and repairing guiderails and barriers, all of which underscore the importance of teamwork and dedication.
In addition to operating heavy machinery, you are tasked with performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance on your equipment and trucks. Keeping accurate records is also a critical component of your job, as you complete daily logs and reports to track equipment usage and maintenance history. This documentation is essential for operational efficiency and fosters accountability within the team. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment.
Work hours vary from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM; Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
Overtime, travel, and shift work will be required during winter season
Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program employed by the Commonwealth of PA (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. This position also requires that the E or O restriction is removed.
This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
This position requires the operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
Additional Requirement:
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
