Responsible for planning, supervising and participating in a small crew engaged in skilled construction, maintenance and repair of City property. Work is performed with considerable independence in accordance with accepted trade practices adapted to municipal requirements under the general direction of a supervisor of higher grade who reviews work through inspections for conformance to established departmental standards. Work instructions may be oral or written and are accompanied by drawings and sketches when necessary. Supervision is exercised over a small crew of workers.
- Supervises and participates in the work of a small crew engaged in maintaining, constructing, and repairing City property.
- Plans and assigns work crews to daily jobs.
- Orders supplies and parts as necessary.
- Performs related work as required.
- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of the trade.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to locate, diagnose, and correct needed repairs on equipment.
- Ability to supervise the work of a small crew.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trade.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including or supplemented by technical courses relating to the trade.
- Minimum of five years of experience as a skilled maintenance person.
