ABOUT THIS JOB

The purpose of this position is to serve as a first line supervisor. This position is located in D05 Maintenance Section/U590 and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times without supervision or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment. NOTE: Experience in any combination of the qualifying fields will be accepted.

JOB DUTIES

  • Supervises the MEO's performing maintenance to the highways and bridges.

  • Prepares daily labor and equipment report. Orders materials daily.

  • Guides and instructs assigned personnel to see that Highway Standards are met.

  • Conducts routine administration meetings and training.

  • Works emergencies at night.

Position-Specific Details:

  1. The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as maintain the following licensing:

  2. Must maintain a Class A CDL license and meet all structured training requirements

  3. Random drug testing is required

  4. Will need computer skills, cell phone, and PDA knowledge for performing regular job duties

  5. Requires nighttime operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hours

  6. Lifting of a maximum of 50 pounds will be required. Manual lifting of more than 50 pounds requires assistance

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Detail to Special Duty by a permanent DOTD employee, or Lateral Appointment

Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.
