Construction Inspection

Rohadfox is looking for several Construction Inspectors who will provide the daily observation of construction-related activities to document conformance of the design criteria and contract requirements for our client on the Chattahoochee Tunnel project. The Construction Inspectors will work directly with Dept. Water Management (DWM) construction staff and Resident Engineer to observe Contractor’s work and report any deviations from the Contract Documents. Hourly rate range is $45-50/hr. plus all benefits as a full-time employee, including a 401k.

Requirements

  • A college degree or a high school degree /GED and comparable proven experience in the field
  • Certifications preferred OSHA 10 Hour Safety Training and NICET Certificates are a plus
  • 6-plus years of hands-on experience in construction inspection
  • Served as Construction Inspector on at least 2 projects for the construction of water mains, sanitary sewers, tunnels, water or wastewater treatment plant modifications or water or wastewater pumping stations with a combined construction value of not less than $20 million

OR

  • 2 projects for the construction of sidewalks, streetscapes, intersection improvements or bridge and/or roadway improvements with responsibility for inspecting work for conformance with plans and specifications and maintaining daily Inspector reports or comparable task for municipal building and site construction
  • Must live within commuting distance

Duties

  • On-site reviews to determine if such is proceeding in accordance with the Contract Documents.
  • The Construction Inspectors will be located onsite with Contractors to foster the identification and mitigation of construction or coordination issues that could affect the project scope, quality, cost, or schedule.

Additional responsibilities of the field inspector relating to construction observation activities, including the following activities, will be provided as deemed appropriate by DWM:

  • Prepare daily reports recording the weather conditions, daily activities, decisions, field discussions, tests witnessed and any unresolved project objectives. The Construction Inspectors identify, and document deficient work observed. Additionally, they will observe the subsequent corrections applied.
  • Determine the relative priority of work requests, solutions to problems involving uniformity in design or Contract Document discrepancies and refer complex decisions to the DWM Construction Manager for input/course of action.
  • Check progress in the field against Contractor’s progress schedule. The Construction Inspectors will provide input regarding the accuracy of baseline and progress schedules.
  • Resolve field-related construction problems at the lowest level, in coordination with the Resident Engineer, to avoid project delays and claims for additional cost and/or time.
  • Monitor the adherence to regulatory requirements of the associated permitting agencies.
  • Take photographs of construction activities and keep records available. Photographs will be identified with the date, subject matter, location, and direction taken and a meaningful description.
  • Confirm/develop list of required submittals
  • Review of submittals and responses to RFI’s
  • Review shop drawings for general compliance with design requirements and contract documents
  • Make periodic site visits to assess general progress and conformity of the work with the contract documents and quality of workmanship.
  • Preparation of design clarifications.
  • Weekly Progress Meetings: Consultant will attend the weekly construction progress meetings to discuss the status of the Work.
  • Weekly Engineering Meetings: Consultant will attend the weekly construction engineering meetings to discuss issues with the Work.
  • Materials Testing: Consultant will review the results of third-party testing performed by United Consulting under a separate contract including concrete testing, soil and roadway base compaction, and other miscellaneous specialty inspections.
  • Specialty Inspections: Consultant will provide subject matter expert for review of specialty inspection required by the Project Contract.
