This position will supervise a heavy construction crew, with increased responsibilities in managing larger and/or more specialized highway and road maintenance activities. Requires extensive knowledge of highway maintenance and construction methods, and operating and maintaining heavy equipment. Supervising and directing crews, planning and organizing work. Their task include but is not limited to: Bridge Erosion projects, flowable fill projects, repair/new construction of catch basins and junction boxes, drainage culvert replacement, concrete bridge rail repair, concrete foundations/slabs, also various facility projects such as: supervising maintenance projects for the repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers. Maintenance, repairs and rehabilitation projects may include but not be limited to making new additions and renovating existing facilities.
The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing and operate the following equipment:
Valid Louisiana Class A commercial driver's license
Must have working knowledge of a computer
Perform duties in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat
May be required to lift items up to 50 pounds
Submit to random drug testing as required Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of electronically controlled locks or industrial or heavy mobile equipment. Job Duties:
* Responsible for overseeing and supervising the daily operation of a District Wide construction crew engaged in, but not limited to concrete patching and bridge rail repairs, construction and/or repair of concrete catch basins, headwall repairs, cross drain replacements, excavation and embankment projects, approach slab repairs using flowable fill, erosion repairs, and building construction and repairs to facilities. Determines materials and equipment needed to accomplish projects. Orders and keeps upwith the unit's inventory on materials used. Plans the work schedule to obtain maximum productions within the Unit.
* Assist Parish crews with moving and hauling stockpile materials, facing off right-of-way tree lines with Braunasarus, excavating drainage ditches, and cutting trees. Conducts tailgate safety meetings on a weekly basis. Assist as necessary with drainage pipe inventory, requesting and accepting shipments; issuing pipe to other units as determined by supervisor. Contacts utility companies, municipal officials, and other responsible parties for assistance in coordinating projects. Assist with District facility
projects as needed.
* Enters daily work orders in Agile and verifies proper coding oflog miles, control sections, material usage, mile post, locations of work, equipment usage, man hours, work functions, and description codes. Incumbent train's subordinate employees in safe operation ofheavy equipment, and common roadway maintenance and construction practice. Approves and tracks the amount of leave taken by employees. Evaluate employee's daily job performance and use this documentation to conduct performance evaluations at the fiscal year end. Recommends personnel actions to Engineering Technician 7.
* May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency I disaster support activities involving nighttime operations or emergency call outs that occur outside of normal work hours.

Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Work hours are to be determined, Monday - Friday.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
