Responsibilities

The mechanical engineer is responsible for the mechanical engineering portion of Valmet new equipment and modifications (converting, packaging, fold) along with reviewing all modifications coming from Valmet Italy.

The mechanical engineer strives to meet the unique needs of the customers while also maintaining standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Create job specific mechanical designs and Bills of material for machines
  • Create job specific layouts, floor plans and safety protocols to meet the customer needs
  • Resolve the Engineering non-conformities identified at suppliers or in-house processes
  • Support sales team by answering engineering questions on feasibility of changes
  • Support purchasing team to evaluate new suppliers, brands and cost reduction initiatives
  • Support customer service team on all engineering related items
  • Support technicians to resolve mechanical issues for tips and mods
  • Responsible for the timely completion of engineering activities to respect the target cost and the promised delivery time
  • Coordinate with engineering team in Italy to understand the functionality and continuing development of Valmet Tissue Converting machines (converting, packaging, fold)
  • Plan and implement initiatives for reduction of cost of goods and services
  • Work with Continuous Improvement leader to identify and roll out improvement projects
  • Travel when necessary to customer's sites to promote or install equipment (Up to 25%)
  • Coordinate and participate in design reviews with customers
  • Self-motivated, engaged, passionate individual
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working with diverse cross functional teams
  • Analytical process skills regarding projects/programs
  • Experience with general root cause analysis and rapid problem solving
  • Able to prioritize and work through busy schedules
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D software for mechanical design
  • Problem analysis resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with PLM (or willingness to learn)
  • SAP experience, knowledge
  • Knowledge of a European language is appreciated
  • Knowledge of Lean and Six sigma principles
  • Project management skills
  • Industry experience is preferred

Physical demands
