Job OverviewThis position is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing and implementing growth strategies, building and maintaining key customer relationships, and promoting energy-efficient solutions for Statesville Public Power (SPP) customers. Also responsible for coordinating electric infrastructure projects, managing right-of-way activities, supporting economic development initiatives, and monitoring internal electric rates to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. - Serve as the Citys Key Accounts Manager, developing and maintaining long-term relationships with industrial and commercial SPP customers, and addressing their unique needs and concerns.
- Investigate power quality issues for key accounts - collaborating with engineering and consultants to find optimal solutions.
- Perform routine billing checks, calculate rebates, and assist Customer Service staff in explaining bills and resolving billing inquiries.
- Monitor internal electric rates, analyze usage trends, and provide recommendations to ensure cost recovery and market competitiveness.
- Identify, promote, and secure new development, business expansion, and infrastructure projects, working with local agencies and stakeholders to support economic growth.
- Engage with prospective and existing businesses, site selectors, and partners to attract and support new projects, representing SPP as a key economic development resource.
- Coordinate with contractors, design teams, and city departments on infrastructure projects, ensuring efficient and compliant project execution.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and marketing efforts, recommending improvements and applying for grants and certifications.
- Serve as a liaison for public information, managing SPP content on the city website, and supporting communication efforts.
- Assist with storm response and power restoration efforts, guiding crews and communicating with customers during outages.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors degree in marketing, business, public administration, economic development, or project management.
- One (1) Three (3) years experience in utilities, business management, or project management.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid North Carolina drivers license, or any valid drivers license with ability to obtain a North Carolina drivers license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
- Must have the Key Public Power Account Executive (KPPAE) certification or ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment.
- Must live within 45 minutes of the City of Statesville for response time in emergencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of electric utility operations, rate structures, and economic development principles.
- Knowledge of key account management practices, customer engagement strategies, and energy efficiency programs.
- Familiar with right-of-way coordination, electric infrastructure planning, and utility design processes.
- Working knowledge of interagency collaboration and public-private partnership development related to economic growth.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and data analysis tools.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to interpret & calculate electric bills for residential, commercial, and industrial customer classes.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
- Demonstrate initiative, problem-solving abilities, and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment by committing to safety and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC), American Public Power Association (APPA), and city safety procedures.
Job Related Physical Requirements
This position involves light work requiring the exertion of 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
