MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma is required and should include courses in higher mathematics and shop supplemented with the completion of a Union apprenticeship program, a private (in-house) apprenticeship program, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work. The apprenticeship program must be verifiable. A certification or an Associates Degree with industry training at either a junior college or a proprietary school is also acceptable. The applicant must hold a journey plumbing certification.
Experience: Must have minimum ten years continuous practice as a journeyman plumber in the remodeling/maintenance industry.
Skills: Thorough knowledge and familiarity in the use of reamers, threading discs, sewer tapes, pipe cutters, snakes and other plumbing equipment is mandatory. The ability to communicate details to employees and others is a prerequisite. Must possess mathematical proficiency and analytical skills necessary to do material and labor estimates for job cost reports.Must have extensive knowledge of general construction and remodeling practices, procedures, and techniques, including tools, equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, safety and applicable building and plumbing codes with a good, general knowledge of blueprint reading. Must possess thorough knowledge of building code inspections and applicable plumbing codes. Must be able to prepare surfaces for painting and finishing; apply undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods and materials; mix and match paints and finishes; perform soda and water blasting; advise in the selection and storage of painting materials.

A plumber is required to have extensive knowledge of the mechanical operation of equipment such as pumps, boilers, heaters, and other plumbing components with the ability to install, repair, and maintain water, gas, drainage, and sanitary pipes as well as other plumbing systems using sealing methods. These methods include glue, clamps, bolts, screws, cement, solder and caulking.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.
1. Perform preventative maintenance work as required
2. Inspect joints, valves, pumps, boilers, water heaters, sinks, commodes, tanks, valves, and other plumbing system components to locate failures or detect leaks and repair or replace when necessary
3. Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines
4. Install small appliances such as dishwashers, toilets, bathtubs and water heaters
5. Unclog drains and sanitary lines
6. Install underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems
7. Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks
8. Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations
9. Must be able to do material take-offs, develop material orders, verify parts received at time of delivery and provide onsite protection of materials
10.Job site supervision including, protection, cleanliness, jobsite safety and security, as well as providing protection of District property and equipment
11.Able to organize multiple employees on a single jobsite
12.Provide supervision and assist in scheduling subcontractors
13.Able to quickly identify potential schedule conflicts and generate and implement needed modifications
14.14. maintenance as well as any corrective maintenance of District tools and equipment 15. Order and maintain inventory of common repair parts as needed

15.Coordinate and prioritize repair tasks, responding in a timely manner to provide appropriate repairs with as little downtime as possible

17.Identify and correct unsafe conditions and practices
18.Identify, document and notify supervisors of damage, abuse and negligent use of equipment or tools
19.Track work orders and communicate status to appropriate personnel

21.Provide for customer satisfaction and total quality control
22.Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools
23.Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place

The employee is expected to be self motivated and to be productive without direct supervision. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines while working within schedules. Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Must be responsible, reliable, and task oriented. Must have a team-oriented attitude with good communication and customer relations skills. Able to clearly explain steps, provide clear directions, and answer questions about construction processes to employees and subcontractors when necessary. General care and cleanliness of the issued district vehicle is expected as well as keeping all district tools and materials secure. Must follow all safety rules, practice safe work habits and use appropriate safety equipment. The Plumber must be available to work off shift hours and be willing to be on call 24/7 to respond to emergency calls immediately.
ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:
Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance. Must be available to work off shift hours and be willing to be on call 24/7 to respond to emergency calls immediately. All vacation time must be scheduled and approved two (2) weeks prior to time off.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Position requires performance of duties in wet, humid hot and cold conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places and in enclosed areas; exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals possible; work may be performed outdoors; position has exposure to noise, vibration and risk of electrical shock. Normal hazards can be expected as associated with the construction environment.

Requires ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 60 feet, and crawl for distances of 50 feet. Job requires the ability to work with tools, pipe and plumbing materials.
