Position Summary \nThompson Engineering is seeking a Structural Designer I to join our growing team. This is an entry-level role supporting engineering design projects under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. The Structural Designer I will assist with calculations, design layouts, drawings, and specifications to ensure high-quality and timely deliverables that align with project objectives. \nThis position may also involve duties typically assigned to a Project Manager. The role requires a strong foundation in drafting tools and basic engineering principles, particularly in structural and bridge design. \n\nEssential Functions \n\n\nApply relevant codes, standards, and emerging industry practices in project work. \n \n\nAssist in addressing engineering inquiries from clients or third parties. \n \n\nOperate AutoCAD and\/or Revit proficiently for design and drafting tasks. \n \n\nDemonstrate foundational understanding of structural and\/or bridge design. \n \n\nInterpret construction specifications, plans, and related regulations. \n \n\nSupport structural design projects, with preference for bridge-related experience. \n \n\nUnderstand applicable laws, codes, and policies within the engineering discipline. \n \n\nCollaborate effectively with teams or work independently as needed. \n \n\nManage workloads and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. \n \n\nApply knowledge of materials, construction methods, and techniques. \n \n\nEstimate time and resources required for assigned tasks. \n \n\nComply with Thompson Engineering's safety and quality assurance standards. \n \n \n\nOther Responsibilities \n\n\nPerform other duties as assigned to support project and company goals. \n \n \n\nMinimum Requirements \n\n\nAssociate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology (or equivalent preferred). \n \n\nMinimum 2 years of experience with AutoCAD and\/or MicroStation. \n \n\nExperience in structural and\/or bridge design, individually and collaboratively. \n \n\nRevit experience is preferred. \n \n\nStrong background in developing detailed engineering drawings. \n \n\nAbility to follow Thompson Engineering's CAD and quality control standards. \n \n\nTranslate general direction into accurate, detailed design documents. \n \n\nCommunicate ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing. \n \n \n\nPhysical Requirements \n\n\nFlexibility to work extended hours and overtime based on project needs. \n \n\nAbility to sit for prolonged periods and work on a computer. \n \n \n\nAbout Thompson Engineering \nFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering began as a firm providing quality assurance services for industrial and infrastructure development across the Gulf Coast.
