Compensation Range: $70,475 - $98,665

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Oversees data-driven safety initiatives, accident response, and reporting processes to promote continuous improvement and operational excellence.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Field Supervisors, Driver Trainers, Drivers

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Oversees interview processes, selection and the recruitment of an adequate number of bus driver applicants to effectively provide safe service.
  • Supervises and conducts driver training and recommends retraining and discipline as required.
  • Conducts on-the-road observations and on-board evaluations of drivers.
  • Monitors driver's licenses and certification expiration dates and notify drivers.
  • Organize Health, Safety, and Training Meetings with drivers.
  • Reviews/files all accident reports, facilitates post-accident testing, collaborates with the legal department on lawsuits and serves as point of contact for bus-related depositions.
  • Completes paperwork and evidence collection for Worker's Compensation injuries.
  • Collects and maintains selected safety statistics to measure the effectiveness of our drivers.
  • Manage bus evacuation process, ensure alignment with State of Illinois regulations. Coordinate with district personnel responsible for submitting state evacuation reports.
  • Conducts Serious Safety Hazard Surveys.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma/GED, Associate's degree (preferred). Five (5) years of experience as a first responder fire/police (preferred). Must have or be able to obtain (within 60 days of hire) and maintain a Class "B" CDL with School Bus, Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.

  • Knowledge in conducting traffic accident investigations.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
