The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Carpenter 1, Facilities Management [R0148275]

ROLE of the POSITION

Carpenter 1 performs a variety of skilled work in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings and equipment.

Incumbents must possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform skilled carpentry and to construct, maintain, repair, and modify facilities, fixtures, furniture and woodwork; review plans and specifications; lay out projects in accordance with code requirements and purchase appropriate materials; construct roofs and walls; repair and install windows.

  • Perform outside contractor inspections, provide project coordination, prepare and review technical specifications on all assigned outside contractor projects.

  • Respond to repair orders; establish priority of repairs; estimate cost of jobs; acquire materials in the most cost-effective manner to complete a job and reduce waste by contacting vendors and/or completing a purchase requisition; make repairs; document time and material costs for billing purposes.

  • Build or remodel rooms in accordance with code requirements; review blueprints; plan and lay out projects; construct forms, pour, and finish concrete for slabs and floors; remove doors, windows,cut out sheetrock walls; disassemble and remove wood or metal wall framing;fabricate and install floor, stair, wall, and ceiling framing members; cut sheetrock and attach it to the framework;install doors, windows, shelves, trim, various types of flooring, ceramic tile, and ceiling gridwork and tiles.

  • Perform periodic preventive maintenance inspections on all buildings as assigned. Candidates will ensure preventative maintenance efforts are efficient and performed with the highest possible quality.

  • Perform and assist with in-house roof repairs on all buildings assigned. This includes carpentry and sheet metal repairs related to roof systems.

  • May serve as a lead worker or first line supervisor to semi-skilled or general labor staff such as maintenance repair workers, part time and temporary workers; maintain assigned equipment and facility records and prepare related reports.

The schedule is Monday Thursday 5am to 3:30 pm. The schedule is subject to change depending upon the needs of the university.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

SALARY

Grade 30, Step 1, salary $54,267.12.

In accordance with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 284.170 , initial appointments to classified positions typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade. A "Step" refers to the specific rate of pay within a grade, as determined by the Division of Human Resources.
