CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. Position Summary A Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) Light Equipment Operator Lead (Technical/Support II) position is available at Schofield Barracks, HI with Colorado State University (CSU) and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position conducts soil stabilization and vegetation management activities in support of the LRAM component of the Army's Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) Program at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, by utilizing light equipment and hand tools such as tractors, mowers, straw blowers, hydro-seeders, skid-steers, shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes, and chainsaws. Position will coordinate and oversee field crew tasks. Work location is located on US Army Garrison Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. Schofield Barracks was established in 1908 to provide mobile defense of Pearl Harbor and the entire island. Located 20 miles from Honolulu on the plateau or central valley of Oahu between the two volcanic mountains that comprise the island, the nearly 18,000-acre installation is home to the U.S. Army Garrison, Hawaii. Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role and requires staff to be fully in-person. Required Job Qualifications Minimum Qualifications include: A High school Diploma, GED, or equivalent At least 5 years of experience with running and maintaining (but not limited to): Small agricultural tractors Mowers Skid-Steers Hydroseeder Front-in loader Handheld power equipment (trimmers, tillers, chainsaws, etc.) Manual tools (shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes etc.) Pickup trucks with and without trailers Experience working on military lands Proficient verbal and written English communication skills Physically able to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity) Able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance Be able to follow directions, work collectively with others as a team, and maintain safe working standards Preferred Job Qualifications 2+ years of experience leading a field crew Knowledge and experience necessary to facilitate: Work site revegetation Land clearing Site preparations Soil stabilization Working knowledge and experience working with the Department of the Army or other federal land-management agencies Experience with land rehabilitation, horizontal construction techniques, and erosion control practices Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Prior experience supporting the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) program Essential Duties Job Duty Category Light equipment operation and hand tool utilization for the purpose of completing assigned LRAM project execution tasks. Operation CDL Trucks (for CDL users) Duty/Responsibility Execute Day to Day Hand Tool Tasks to complete LRAM projects. Equipment operated includes but is not limited to agricultural tractors (with PTO driven attachments), mowers, straw blowers, hydro-seeders, and skid-steers (with and without rotary head mulching attachment), water truck (for CDL users) and dump truck (for CDL users). Hand tools used, but not limited to shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes, trimmers and chainsaws. Equipment operation and hand tool utilization is for the purpose of completing LRAM projects. Percentage Of Time 60 Job Duty Category Field Crew Lead Duty/Responsibility Provide directions to crew at the project site. Coordinates with supervisor on task prioritization, quality of crew work, task requirements and reporting of progress and issues. Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Category Equipment maintenance and upkeep and as directed, conduct research on parts and costs and submit purchase requests. Duty/Responsibility 1. Performs operational maintenance and inspections on all equipment for operational readiness and safety and makes minor adjustments and performs operator maintenance on equipment operated. 2. Performs routine maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in good working condition such as changing tires, inspecting, greasing, and cleaning equipment, maintaining fluid levels, inspecting and changing filters as needed, changing and sharpening blades, changing/replacing batteries, calibrating equipment and performing related tasks. Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty Category Reporting Duty/Responsibility Support for tracking project tasks for monthly/quarterly reports.
