This position is located in the District Area Engineer Section of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Parish Highway Superintendent of Claiborne Parish. The incumbent of this position will operate heavy equipment used in the repair and maintenance of the state and federal highway system in Claiborne Parish, as well as make minor repairs and perform necessary maintenance on the equipment and vehicles used to perform these tasks.

Job Duties:
10% -Supervises a highway maintenance crew while they operate heavy equipment including the following: track hoe, (excavation), front end loader (2.8 cubic yards), dump truck (tandem), and motor grader, dump trucks (single axle), mowing equipment, asphalt distributors, rollers, and skid steer loader with various attachments.
10% -Supervises the operations of various road maintenance and general labor duties such as flagging, traffic, patching potholes, cleaning storm drains and road construction, etc.
10% -Schedules and assigns maintenance reports in coordination with the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent.
10% -Document monthly employee performance evaluations for members for the road crew in order to assist the superintendent in completing annual PPR's
10% -Assists in monitoring the training of crew members and coordinates with the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent to schedule training.
10% -Assists superintendent to insure that proper maintenance and repairs are made on all equipment assigned to or used by crew.
10% -Assists superintendent in making sure that proper reporting and documentation of all work activities, manpower, equipment, and materials.
20% -Responds to superintendent's request to take necessary corrective action to complete complaints and requests made by public officials, property owners, and the general public.
5% -Responds to emergencies on a twenty-four basis in order to protect the traveling public
5% -Fulfills the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent duties in case of absence. May be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
This position serves as one of the Highway Foreman for Claiborne Parish. The incumbent is required to have specialized knowledge of the use of heavy equipment and computers. The incumbent is required to operate equipment, computers. Must be knowledgeable in safe operations of passenger vehicles as well as other equipment operated by the Highway Foreman 1's. This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain licensing in the following areas Class A CDL License. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Compensation: The starting salary for Highway Foreman 1 will be $24.10/hourly.
Class A, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.
