Tesla is seeking a talented Engineer to innovate in the realm of interior lighting, switches, and haptics technology. This role involves working on a lean and agile team alongside world-class designers and engineers to drive full-system design. Responsibilities span from concept definition during the industrial design phase to prototype creation, production design release, and launch across multiple Tesla programs. Collaboration with cross-functional teams ensures the delivery of cutting-edge solutions that balance form, function, performance, and cost.
- Engineer, develop, and execute world-class interior lighting and switch assembly systems that meet styling intent and comply with regulatory requirements
- Create novel designs to integrate new technologies that align with design themes and compliance standards
- Collaborate with design, styling, and engineering teams to provide critical input early in the product development cycle
- Engage in an iterative process with stakeholders to achieve an optimal balance of form, function, performance, and cost
- Direct engineering development with Tesla teams and suppliers to ensure successful execution
- Maintain all necessary product development documentation
- Support cross-functional integration of interior lighting and switches by working with teams such as body, exteriors, 12V electronics, manufacturing, supply chain, and supplier engineers to achieve technically feasible designs
- Strong first-principles and physics-based thinking with problem-solving skills for challenges of varying scope and complexity
- Familiarity with the latest lighting, switch, and haptics technologies, including capacitive touch, time of flight, and OLED
- Experience with complex assemblies, including PCBA, sensors, flexible assemblies, and enclosures
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles, including GD&T, assembly, and dimensional engineering in design
- Proficiency in 3D modeling within a product development environment, with design experience in CATIA V5/V6 strongly preferred
- Understanding of prototyping, production techniques, analysis, and validation, with experience in plastics part design and manufacturing processes as an advantage
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
