Our West Union, SC manufacturing plant is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our R&D team. In this role, you will design, modify and manage activities for a specific product or group of products from product definition and planning through production and release. In addition, you will serve as an important resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing as the product(s) move to completion and distribution.
Duration
The target start for this role is Fall 2025 and will preferably continue for two consecutive terms or semesters.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Support the mechanical lead engineers on assigned projects
Investigate design challenges by partnering with senior engineering personnel to troubleshoot problems, identify solutions, and implement corrective actions
Optimize internal test fixtures and designing tools or structures to aid in the manufacturing process
Work with cross functional teams to support NPI and sustaining projects
Familiarize and support mechanical design validation tests that include but are not limited to IP rating, drop, vibe, transportation of meter product/packaging
Procure material for plastic prototypes
Review supplier equipment drawings and data
Learn and understand any regulations related to departmental tasks
Required Skills & Experience
Education: enrolled in an accredited and related degree program with completion of at least two years of college-level coursework (Mechanical Engineering or related)
Experience with CAD software, such as Creo, AutoCAD or SolidWorks
Fundamental understanding of product design and material selection
Intermediate experience with 3D printing
Professional workplace communication skills
Able to work on site in West Union, SC
Preferred Skills & Experience
Enrolled in a graduate level Mechanical Engineering or related degree program
Professional experience relating to Mechanical Engineering
