Job Summary Summary: Under general supervision performs preventive maintenance and repairs mechanical equipment and systems throughout the entire hospital complex. May be required to carry the on-call pagers. May be required to work weekends or rotating shifts. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions: -Performs preventive and/or predictive maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment and systems throughout the hospital including fire extinguishers. -Make repairs as necessary to building operations and mechanical systems including replacement of belts, drives, filters, seals, motors and pumps, etc. -Repairs all HVAC systems in the hospital (fan units, A/C units, and exhaust fans), including conducting manometer readings. -Inspect and diagnose problem equipment. -Responds to all emergency situations when and where appropriate and/or necessary and may cover route throughout the complex -Responsible for cleaning all Engineering areas (Bed tower, Peter Bent Brigham, Thorn Building, BLI, MRB). -Performs routine work such as unclogging drains, replacing washers and/or faucets, replacing light bulbs and cords. -Responds to routine work such as hanging pictures, installing cabinets, door locks, hanging bulletin and chalkboards, etc. -Performs minor adjustments to beds and stretchers. -Must have a good working knowledge of various tools. -May occasionally assist other tradesmen in their duties related to plumbing, electrical, HVAC and carpentry work. -Maintain a safe working environment in areas of Engineering Department responsibility. -Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned and work with other departments in emergency situations. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma required 40 hours night Experience 2 years mechanical or electrical experience and/or a graduate of a technical or vocational school. required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Must successfully interact and cooperate with other groups with the hospital. - Must be able to clearly explain issues to other hospital personnel. - Good working knowledge and effective use of standard hand tools small power tools and relate mechanical specialty tools. - May occasionally (less than 15% of the time) get involved in an dirty or hazardous environment in the performance of his/her duties. - Occasionally (less than 15% of the time) must exert effort to lift over 30lbs. - Constant tours and walking throughout the facility.
