I. General Summary:
The Systems Design Engineer (SDE) will provide design engineering support in Sales,
Post-Sales and Implementation capacities for Audiovisual Technology Solutions. This
includes basic to intermediate secure visual information systems for multi-domain
government environments, including, but not limited to, auditoriums, multi-purpose
training rooms, conference rooms, and offices. The SDE will engage in system designs
of varying complexity from single room projects to larger multi-system programs.
The SDE must be capable of validating and commissioning integrated systems, quickly
and effectively diagnosing intermediate issues related to supporting AV/IT hardware and
taking appropriate corrective actions.
II. Authority/Clearance:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Secret Security Clearance and the ability to be cleared to Top Secret required.
US Citizens, Non-Felons.
Ability to pass a limited federal background investigation.
III. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Needs analysis through onsite customer meetings, remote conferences, and
review of customer solicitations (e.g. RFQ, RFP).
Site surveys to ascertain environmental considerations in solutions development
including, but not limited to, room measurements, furniture layout, existing
infrastructure, and ceiling obstructions.
Technical quote development to include Statements of Work (SOW) and Bills of
Materials (BOM), and labor estimations.
Technical proposal development to include drafting technical approach content,
Lists of Materials (LOM), labor estimations, assistance with past performance
content, and assistance with project schedule development for moderately sized
projects.
Technical engineering on projects ranging from basic single room presentation
applications to intermediate projects composed of multi-system designs of 10 or
less discrete solutions, multi-room divisible systems and moderate
visibility/leadership customers.
Technical engineering on secure multi-domain government visual information
systems.
Drafting of system integration documentation including, but not limited to, wiring
diagrams, cable run lists, procurement BOM, final SOW, power and heat load
calculations, and facility plans.
Collaborating with design, programming, and field team members for successful
implementation of system design.
System commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training on an as needed
basis.
Mentorship and training of junior team members.
IV. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Min. four (4) years' experience in audiovisual system design engineering.
Knowledge of basic Project Management practices.
Knowledge of basic to intermediate secure system design practices for multidomain government environments.
Knowledge of basic data networking principles and best practices.
Knowledge of best practices in the design and implementation of Audiovisual
systems for government and commercial clients.
Experience with various audiovisual technologies including, but not limited to; flat
panel and rear projection display systems; wireless microphone, multi-zone
distributed loudspeakers, voice-lift and mix-minus audio systems; audio and
video teleconferencing system endpoints; wireless and network integrated control
systems; traditional multi-media digital audiovisual signal transport.
Knowledge of Systems Integration best practices and standards (i.e. cabling,
labeling, device installation, signal separation, etc.)
Skill in writing narrative technical documentation at the quote, SOW, and
proposal levels.
Skill in loading control system code (Crestron/AMX)
Skill in Audio DSP configuration including, but not limited to; leveling and routing, file building; EQ/filtering; logic and control.
Able to understand architectural and engineering drawings and schematics
Able to effectively capture, analyze, and clarify customer needs through verbal
and written methods.
Able to ascertain customer needs by eliciting information through various means
of communication.
Able to manage time, focus, and efficiently multi-task with fluid deadlines.
Detail oriented, thorough, and organized with sound judgement and decision-making.
Able to develop and maintain working relationships with customers, co-workers,
and vendors.
Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision, effectively collaborate
within a team, take direction, and execute company mission and initiatives.
Able to recognize, analyze, and solve technical design problems through critical
and strategic thinking.
Able to troubleshoot minor to intermediate system functional issues.
Knowledge of advanced secure system design practices for multi-domain
government environments are beneficial.
Working knowledge of AMX/Crestron source code development process for small
to medium size systems is beneficial.
Knowledge of AVoIP principles is beneficial.
Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 standards is beneficial.
Knowledge of AVIXA and AQAV AV9000 performance and quality standards is
beneficial.
Able to train and develop junior personnel is beneficial.
Ability to manage sub-contractor capabilities and performance is beneficial.
Skill in drafting formal written standard operating procedures and processes is
beneficial.
V. Education & Certification:
BS/BA or equivalent education & experience
Avixa CTS certification.
Crestron DMC-D-4K certification
AMX HCCA - Design Level 1 certification
Biamp Tesira and QSC Q-SYS Level 1 certifications and training.
Avixa CTS-D certification is beneficial.
COMPTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications are beneficial.
Other Crestron and/or AMX trainings and certifications are beneficial.
SynAudCon certifications and training beneficial.
VI. Language Skills:
Knowledge, understanding, and skill in reading and writing the English language.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, and management.
Ability to convey a professional and positive image to customers and employees.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
VII. Mathematical Skills:
Knowledge and skill in basic arithmetic and algebra.
Knowledge of basic trigonometry is beneficial.
Knowledge and skill in applicable mathematic calculations in the design of
audiovisual systems.
VIII. Software Proficiency Desired:
Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook).
Competency with AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
Adobe Reader or Bluebeam Revu.
Biamp Tesira or QSC Q-SYS designer.
Microsoft SharePoint is beneficial.
Crestron and AMX Software is beneficial.
IX. Working Conditions:
This position may require CONUS and OCONUS travel up to 20% of the time,
typically, in 1-2 overnight durations up to one week. On rare occasion, travel of 2
weeks may be necessary to support system commissioning on larger projects.
Primarily business and finished office environments with occasional visits to
unfinished construction sites.
Must be able to handle criticism and remain calm and effective in highly stressful
situations.
Requires persistence in the face of obstacles and challenges.
Requires standing and sitting for periods of time for computer-related and filing
work. May require light lifting of boxes for shipping and receiving or files.
