Purpose Statement

The job of Custodial Foreman is to perform and supervise facility cleaning and other related tasks as directed by the Custodial Manager. The role involves assisting in the organization, planning, coordination, scheduling, monitoring, training, disciplining, and counseling of custodial staff and projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting Custodians: Provide assistance to custodians and head custodians to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Communication: Coordinate with administrators, personnel, and external organizations to resolve issues, manage projects, and exchange relevant information.
  • Training & Orientation: Conduct orientation and ongoing training sessions for custodial staff to ensure work is completed skillfully and safely.
  • Project Coordination: Work with administration and other departments to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Work Planning: Manage district custodial work, summer cleaning programs, and special setups as directed by the Custodial Manager.
  • Health & Safety Oversight: Ensure building security and the health and safety of students, employees, and visitors through inspections and safety practices.
  • Status Updates: Keep personnel informed about work orders and procedures to support decision-making and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Recordkeeping & Logistics: Maintain records of inspections, job assignments, and custodial activities to ensure up-to-date reference and audit trails.
  • Professional Development: Participate in meetings, workshops, and trainings to stay updated on best practices and industry trends.
  • Emergency Response: Address emergency situations as they arise to ensure safety and resolve immediate concerns.
  • Equipment Supervision: Oversee the use of custodial equipment, chemicals, and materials to ensure staff safety and efficiency.
  • Supervision: Supervise custodial staff to ensure work is performed safely and effectively.
  • Training Personnel: Train custodial staff on procedures for general custodial work to develop skills and ensure safety.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support the effective functioning of the custodial team.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills:

  • Ability to perform technical tasks with the need to occasionally upgrade skills.
  • Competence in operating custodial equipment, standard office tools, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to apply relevant laws, codes, and policies, as well as manage projects and prepare records.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of industrial cleaning methods, tools for minor repairs, and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with codes, regulations, and laws relevant to custodial work.

Abilities:

  • Ability to organize and manage schedules and projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Works under direct supervision with standardized routines.
  • Directs other custodial staff and manages resources to accomplish departmental tasks.
  • Monitors budget expenditures and utilizes resources across various work units.

Experience & Education

  • Experience: Job-related experience within a specialized custodial field with increasing responsibility.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
