Job Description

Position Purpose:

Responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining a variety of moderately complex to complex diesel powered and OTR equipment to include all forklifts, yard trucks/trailers, backhoes, OTR trucks/trailers, and hydroblasters to insure optimum performance of equipment.

Primary Duties /Responsibilities:

Performs the following duties:
  • Numeracy; take accurate measurements using precision instruments (eg. dial indicator ,micrometer)
  • Aerial Lift Certification and other elevated work (Fall protection)
  • Hot work; Welding Certification (Oxy acetylene/Plasma Cutting)
  • Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair
  • Pneumatic system troubleshooting and repair
  • Steel and building erection
  • Fabrication
  • Conveyor maintenance and repair (eg. Drag, screw, roller, elevators)
  • Scaffolding Certification; Scaffolding assembly and inspection
  • Pump repair, rebuilding and installation
  • Repair and/or replace functional parts of control instruments and mechanical devices and interpret instructions and diagrams in correcting existing problems. Follows all procedures
  • Troubleshoot existing problems by observing, listening, and feeling mechanical devices to determine possible causes for problem situations.
  • Dismantle a variety of diesel or gasoline powered and OTR equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts and reassemble and test for optimum performance.
  • Maintain and certify all facility vans, tank trailers and other site and roadworthy equipment to DOT standards.
  • Perform DOT inspections on OTR equipment per DOT standards and complete all necessary paperwork required.
  • Maintain appropriate records on completed work performed and forward logs along with findings to the immediate supervisor.
  • Set up and operate appropriate equipment in accordance to OSHA guidelines such as drill press, grinders, welding equipment, etc. to manufacture parts and repair existing equipment/parts within the facility.
  • On an as needed basis, orders needed parts and keeps adequate inventories to meet scheduled on going maintenance programs.
  • Assist Millwrights as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Must have completed a certificate/degree in diesel repair/mechanics from a reputable trade school.
  • Prior work experience of 1 (one) year in a related position preferred
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER and complete entry level training (LOTO, Line Breaking, Hotwork)
  • Must have completed 6240 hours of on the job training, or have documented 5 years or greater in related industrial experience and skill.
  • Must have completed 600 hours of classroom (on-line or face to face) training including listed primary duties or have 5 years work experience as a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic.

  • Problem solving; Must have the mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and repair various complex pieces of equipment with the ability to learn and perform the Journeyman Diesel Mechanic task

  • Automotive Mechanic Certification
  • Welding Certification
  • Forklift certification

Additional Information

Targeted Hourly Pay: $41.20
