As a Senior Package Project Manager I, you will serve as a key technical resource for SPX sales personnel and representatives while managing all aspects of customer service and full-cycle project management for assigned territories. The incumbent will process orders, manage change orders, support compliance and contract review, and collaborate with internal teams to resolve customer issues, warranty claims, and quality feedback in a timely, cost-effective manner. This role is essential in driving customer satisfaction, maintaining target margins, improving quality processes, and ensuring on-time shipments while effectively managing multiple projects and building strong cross-functional partnerships.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Project and Order Management
  • Oversee project schedules, shipments, customer communications, and ensure orders meet Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
  • Manage change orders, maintain target margins, and balance customer needs with business financial goals.
  • Conduct plant visits to monitor order execution, address issues, and drive quality improvements.
  • Risk, Financial, and Contract Oversight
  • Manage risk, hold reports, contract compliance, and provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Support Finance in cash collection, process warranty claims, and handle insurance, bonds, and letters of credit.
  • Lead value creation efforts by minimizing margin leakage and identifying margin growth opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement and Team Collaboration
  • Mentor other project managers, lead special projects, and drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate "Lessons Learned" sharing and support cross-functional communication across suppliers, manufacturing, and internal teams.
  • Prepare submittal packages, respond to RFIs/RFPs, and manage global orders in alignment with company policies.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience & Skills

  • 2-3 years of project or construction management experience or related customer service experience
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels (production to management) and present data and recommendations verbally and in written form to management
  • Solid base of leadership skills

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Experience in accounting, engineering, construction management, and/or supply chain, preferred
  • Experience in the power plant or similar industry
  • Knowledge of HVAC, cooling towers, and/or chillers, strongly desired
  • Aftermarket or distributor sales (representative management) experience, helpful
  • Familiarity with SAP, or other ERP systems
  • Project scheduling experience
  • Familiarity with engineering documents and history, desired

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Project management certification, preferred

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period
  • Ability to travel to Olathe plant
  • Occasional lifting up to 5 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally
  • May work outside at times and be exposed to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather
