As a Medium Equipment Operator working in the Parks & Recreation Division, you will operate and maintain assigned equipment, inspect equipment before use and ensure equipment repairs are made.

- Maintains assigned equipment; completes minor repairs; washes and greases equipment.
- Inspects equipment prior to use.
- Transports equipment to job sites.
- Ensures that work sites are compliant with safety guidelines.
- Informs surrounding residents of work in progress.
- Operates jackhammer, backhoe, and hand tools to excavate water lines.
- Operates tapping machine.
- Digs trenches.
- Measures and cuts tubing and wire.
- Excavates and cleans meter boxes.
- Repairs line and main breaks.
- Assists in the installation, repair, and maintenance of fire hydrants
- Mows the city's canals and ditches with boom mower or bush hog.
- Operates tandem dump truck.
- Operates backhoe.
- Repairs or replaces underground stormwater pipes; replaces or repairs manhole rings or tops; repairs erosion problems.
- Transports equipment to job sites.
- Performs or assists with street construction and maintenance activities.
- Maintains rights-of-way, streets, and sidewalks.
- Maintains, inspects, and operates various hand and power tools and small equipment, such as weed trimmers, chainsaws, mowers, aerial lift devices, and asphalt and cement demolition and finishing equipment.
- Sets up traffic control devices around work sites.
- Loads construction debris onto trucks.
- Moves dirt, gravel, rock, sand, and other heavy materials.
- Performs general landscape maintenance, including blowing, weed eating, and spreading mulch.
- Repairs facility equipment, including fences, benches.
- Removes litter, debris, weeds, and wild growth; cleans waste and empties trash receptacles; shovels soil, rock, mulch, leaves, and debris; loads materials on trucks.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional Information: Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of turf maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
- Skill in the operation of work-related equipment, including tractors, flatbed trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, trimmers, blowers, and front-end loaders.
- Skill in performing maintenance checks of equipment.
- Skill in lining playing fields.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include city and department policies. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties connected to operating equipment to maintain city parks and facilities. Malfunctioning equipment and inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to operating equipment to maintain city parks and facilities. Successful performance helps ensure the maintenance and beautification of city property.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
