Kensington Glass Arts (KGa) in Fredrick, Maryland is seeking an Senior Construction Estimator in our  office in Frederick, MD.

Kensington Glass Arts specializes in high-end interior glass work, typically for law firms and organizations with very upscale office interiors. The company is unique in that we manufacture and install architectural glass products. KGa's single source capacity provides for a unique capability to control the destiny of our projects from beginning to end.

The Senior Estimator is responsible for the estimating commercial glazing installations and providing technical support to project management staff.  Coaches the Estimating department Staff and oversees all Contract Division sales. Reviews Estimating department staff quotes and scope.


  • Oversee all aspects of Estimating Department.
  • Monitors the Estimating staff, process and procedures to achieve the stated company Contract Division sales goals.
  • Participate in establishing, implementing and oversee strategic Estimating departmental goals.
  • Set and maintain a steady emotional balance within the Estimating Department.
  • Promote and instill KGa Core Values. Assist in presenting KGa’s “We can do anything” perspective.
  • Provide leadership to initiate and influence change.
  • The Senior Estimator will be OSHA 10 certified. 


  • Oversight responsibility for sales process for Contract Division projects from initial lead generation and cost estimate stage through turnover to Preconstruction and Project Management teams.
  • Responsible of Estimating Department’s adherence to established schedules and quality standards.
  • Directly oversee all Estimating Department staff.
  • Coach Estimating staff to promote and further KGa standards and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the completion of cost proposals and verify that all outgoing proposals are accurate and compliant with KGa standards.
  • Oversee the process of analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation and preparation of time, cost, and labor estimates for commercial glazing installations. 
  • Compute cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness. 
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions. 
  • Assume responsibility for creating and maintaining project specific organizational systems (such as new bid folders and files).
  • Create data by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends. Improve product marketability and profitability by researching, identifying, and capitalizing on market opportunities
  • Forecast and track key account metrics and analyze data to help establish company strategies and focus.
  • Overcome objections of prospective customers to facilitate contract awards. 
  • Emphasize product/service features and benefits, discuss KGa philosophy and strategies and generate buy-in from potential clients and internal staff.
  • Always maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the company in a positive manner. 
  • Periodically conduct information-only presentations, such as seminars, trade show demonstrations, and other efforts. 
  • Build and maintain ongoing awareness of new products and services, competitor activities, and other research. 
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships. Develop a trusted advisor relationship with key customer stakeholders and executive sponsors.
  • Assist with high severity requests or issue escalations as needed.
  • Propose solutions to technical issues and help to implement proposed solutions and act as technical resource for project management staff.
  • Consult and interact with other KGa divisions as required to facilitate overall company efficiency and performance.
  • Coordinate receiving, tracking, and organization of all estimating related document and bidding documents
  • Review awarded projects to establish critical path milestones and propose action paths, schedules, processes and accuracy of scopes.
  • Propose solutions to technical issues and help to implement proposed solutions and act as technical resource for project management staff.
  • Interact with vendors to establish project costs.  Assist clients with product specification. 
  • Negotiate new contracts and establish relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Initiate new systems and procedures to improve efficiency such as project costing systems, labor review and analysis systems, project projections and other systems necessary to support growth of Company.


  • Direct Supervisor is Vice President.
  • Attend bi-weekly 1:1 meeting with Vice President.
  • Direct weekly 1:1 meetings with direct reports. 
  • Attend bi-weekly KGa Project Management meetings and other company meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend occasional Sales Team and company wide meetings and functions.


  • While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel while typing at a computer keyboard.  
  • The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. 
  • The employee exerts up to 20lbs of force occasionally, and or/or up to 10lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible about of force constantly to move objects.  
  • Vision requirements include the ability to see at 20 inches or less.

  • Work is occasionally performed in a construction environment with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and potentially extreme outdoor weather conditions. There is occasional exposure to loud sounds sufficient enough to cause distraction.
  • This position requires frequent local travel to client sites and occasional out of town travel.
