Position Description:
The Assistant Construction Superintendent supports the Superintendent and Project Manager in the coordination and supervision of all on-site construction activities. This role assists in enforcing safety standards, monitoring project progress, maintaining site cleanliness, and ensuring quality workmanship. The Assistant Superintendent acts as a key field leader, helping facilitate smooth communication between subcontractors, vendors, and the project management team to ensure project goals are met.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist and support the Superintendent and project management team to coordinate, plan, and supervise project field activities with trade partners and key stakeholders.
- Monitor job site safety and ensure compliance with OSHA and company policies.
- Provide proactive and intentional leadership in developing the safety culture on the project site.
- Help track and report project progress, daily field activities, and potential delays.
- Document site conditions, weather, and workforce activities in daily reports.
- Attend pre-construction, progress and other project meetings, and relay key updates to the project team.
- Review and coordinate plans and specifications with design team and project team.
- Ensure proper implementation of construction documents and change directives.
- Review project schedule and assist with creating and distributing a 3−week look ahead schedule.
- Assist with material management, deliveries, and verifying quantities on-site.
- Maintain site organization, cleanliness, and signage for safety and compliance.
- Assist with implementing temporary conditions such as weather enclosures and safety barricades
- Support punch list management and project close-out activities.
- Schedule and direct the daily activities of work and take necessary action to assure that the project objectives of cleanliness, safety, budget, schedule, quality and process are met.
- Maintain relationships with Ownership, development, architects, union representatives, trade partners, and other key stake holders.
- Create and foster a positive team culture.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic understanding of construction processes, materials, and building codes.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficient with construction technology tools such as Procore, Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to changing priorities.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two-year college degree in Construction Management, or equivalent preferred or equal experience.
- 4+ years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 2 years in a field leadership or foreman-level position.
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Experience with multi-family, mixed-use, or commercial construction projects is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
Classification: Non- Exempt
- This is a full-time on-site position: 40 hours/week
- Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, standard hours
Physical Requirements:
- This position involves work at a construction site where duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to handle exposure to dirt, heat, water, noise, dust, vibration, and office environment.
- Must be able to walk, stand, and sit.
Salary: $80,000-$100,000 commensurate with experience.
