Building Construction Inspector - Senior

Advanced technical fieldwork in the enforcement of the County's construction codes, related regulations, and Building Division policies that include assisting the Chief Inspector for the appropriate trade in assigning tasks to Building Construction Inspectors. Inspects various construction sites of more complex projects and assists in the training and auditing of all Building Construction Inspectors to ensure adherence to the building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and/or other related codes, regulations, and Division policies. Assists the Chief Inspector in planning, assigning, directing, and monitoring the work of Building Construction Inspectors. Investigates and resolves advanced technical questions and exercises customer relations while utilizing independent judgment, functioning with minimal supervision. Work is performed within the framework provided by the various construction codes and Division policies. Work is performed under the direction of Chief Inspector, through oral and written communication and re-inspection of work. Performance is reviewed by the Chief Inspector for the appropriate discipline through conferences and discussions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of five (5) years of experience as required by the State of Florida in construction work as an Architect, Engineer, Contractor, Inspector, Electrician, Plumber, HVAC Technician, or Carpenter in the appropriate discipline; two (2) years of supervisory experience as a construction inspector in the appropriate inspection discipline in the construction field.

Necessary Special Requirements: Florida Licensure as a Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or Building (Structural) Inspector and Plans Examiner in the same discipline per Florida Statute 468 OR possession of valid certifications from International Code Council (ICC) and/or another state, with ability to attain Florida Provisional Certification within 120 days of hire AND one (1) Standard Florida License within 11 months of hire OR meet the postsecondary education requirement as required by the State of Florida with the ability to obtain Florida Provisional Certification within 120 days of hire AND one (1) Standard Florida License within 11 months of hire. Candidates who possess equivalent International Code Council (ICC) Certifications or other nationally-recognized certifications at time of application and the ability to obtain FS468 Building Code Administrators and Inspections Board (BCAIB) provisional certifications within 120 days and standard certification within 11 months of hire. May also substitute current registration in the State of Florida as an Architect or Engineer.

Must be able to lift 40 pounds. Possession of a valid Driver's License from applicant's home state. Must obtain a Florida Driver's License within 60 days of appointment and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.
