Under general supervision, the Street Superintendent participates in the creation and implementation of budget recommendations, supervises and trains divisional staff, provides oversight of applicable city contracts and assurance for compliance with regulatory agency rules, regulations, city standards, and specifications, safety and responds to emergency conditions and inclement weather. This position is responsible for successfully managing the departmental operations of all associated personnel and the financial responsibilities inherent in the work, equipment, materials, and supplies utilized by the department.
Other duties include: but not limited to street construction, performing maintenance and repair of streets, traffic sign installation and maintenance, drainage projects, landscaping maintenance, street right-of-way mowing, tree trimming and removals, developing work schedules, creating daily work plans, controlling expenditures, and other tasks as assigned by the Director and/or Public Works Manager. Work closely with the other Superintendents in the other divisions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Evaluates the condition of all City of Aubrey streets on an ongoing basis and schedule needed repairs and/or maintenance as necessary to maintain the roadway system.
- Encourages & facilitates a harmonious team working environment.
- Manages the daily operations of the department including: personnel, scheduling, and monitoring all regulatory requirements.
- Specifies and reviews planning for system improvements, development activities, and for future needs relating to streets, and drainage.
- Confers with local, state, and federal agencies on regulations and requirements for the department and monitors and records for reporting purposes.
- Responds to emergencies and assists personnel under charge in all facets of tasks performed as needed.
- Ensures proper instruction and training of personnel under charge in methods and procedures, proper use of equipment, preventative maintenance, system maintenance and repair, and proper safety protocols.
- Follows up and validates the steady and successful completion of all work performance and project management progress.
- Performs work with relative independence and judgment with the initiative required to meet department operating requirements and process abnormalities.
- Assists Public Works Director with gathering information and makes recommendations for equipment and materials that need to be purchased.
- Identifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, public inquiries of the general public, and the status of work activities
- Requires the flexibility to adhere to stand-by (on call) schedule as assigned, work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Evaluates employee performance and assists in selecting new employees.
- Counsel employees and work through disciplinary issues in compliance with City personnel rules and regulations and State and Federal law.
- Assists other departments and performs other duties as assigned.

- Deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Works mostly outdoors in extremes of heat and cold.
- Works rotating on-call shift.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
- Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand/eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate tools and equipment associated with the job.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED
Experience with safety, training, and operation of heavy equipment
Five (5) years experience as a superintendent or similar position in a public works or similar type maintenance type work or any equivalent combination of educational, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
A valid Texas class C drivers license is required with a good driving record
