Seasonal General Laborer - Highway

The Portage County Highway department is hiring Seasonal General Laborers ! These are great positions, especially if you enjoy working outdoors. These positions will work approximately March 15 until December 31, 2025.

Additionally, these positions work 4 days a week during the Spring and Summer months, so you can enjoy a 3 DAY WEEKEND !

Starting pay: $24.00 / hour

What are the primary job duties?

• Perform manual road construction and maintenance tasks.
• Install and remove snow fence
• Replace guardrail, road patching
• Cut brush, tar cracks, use hand and small power tools
• Collect refuse from various roadways and other similar manual tasks.
• Operate light and medium duty equipment for plowing, sanding, salting as well as for the transporting of maintenance materials.
• Operate industrial tractors for roadside maintenance
• Drive quad and tri axle trucks engaged in the transportation of construction and maintenance materials.
• Operate higher level equipment in accordance with established procedures

What are the minimum qualifications?

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL - Class B) and safe driving record.
• Experience working physically demanding duties.
• Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
