Summary
Performs routine and repetitive fabrication tasks using a variety of hand tools to cut, bend, form and shape sheet-metal and/or plastic parts.
Performs moderately complex fabrication tasks involving the setup, calibration, and operation of equipment to produce or modify parts.
Performs a wide variety of complex fabrication tasks involving the set-up, calibration and operation of equipment that requires advanced technical knowledge.
Level Distinction
Must be able to perform up to 2 distinct job functions within the group/dept.
Tig Weld tack / basic seams
Must be able to perform multiple distinct job functions within the group/dept or an advantage technical function such as equipment trouble shooting. Tig Weld - blended seams
Must be able to perform the majority of job functions within the group/dept or an advantage technical function such as tig/mig welding. Must be able to rotate workstations as needed. Tig Weld agitators
Essential Functions
- Shakes out and/or deburrs sheet metal parts.
- Rivets, spot welds, or solders pieces together to fabricate material.
- Fabricates electrical parts, components and/or systems from raw materials.
- Maintains a safe work environment and identifies/reports potential hazards to management.
- Fabricates materials and parts while maintaining quality standards to avoid defects and rework.
- Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.
- Interprets existing blueprints and programs machinery.
- Performs preventive maintenance as required on machinery/equipment.
- Operates all relevant machinery, tools, and equipment.
- Fabricates finished parts and complex assemblies to specifications.
- Performs complex repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment.
- Offsets and/or avoids problems caused from welding including material distortion and warping.
- Provides assistance to lower level operators.
Education & Experience
Little or no prior relevant experience is required.
Two years of sheet metal/fabrication experience is required. Ability to operate a variety of machine tools. Must be dependable and work well in a team environment.
Five years of advantaged sheet metal/fabrication experience is required. Solid verbal communication and listening skills.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to use hand/power tools and other special equipment.
- Ability to read, write and perform standard assembly related tasks
- Manual dexterity and the ability to carry out repetitive tasks quickly and methodically
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and written work instructions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in fabrication/sheet metal.
- Ability to recognize quality problems with materials and work in process.
- Advanced shop skills and equipment operation knowledge
