Construction Inspector

Inspect civil engineering construction projects to ensure compliance with legal requirements and prescribed specifications.

• Inspect all phases of non-structural construction including potable water, reclaimed water, sewer, paving, grading, drainage, landscaping, irrigation and all aspects of site development for compliance with state and city codes and standards and approved plans and specifications.
• Confer with owners, contractors and architects concerning installations and corrections to be made when deficiencies are discovered.
• Investigate and report on complaints received from any concerned person, group or agency on matters concerning hazardous conditions or practices.
• Inspect all phases of permits issued by the Public Works Department, including right-of-way, pavement and striping, driveway connections and site improvements, during and after completion for conformity with city codes and standards, approved plans and permits.
• Perform code enforcement inspections to ensure that commercial properties are being maintained in conformance with the approved site plan.
• Perform field evaluations and provide technical oversight of roadway signing, signals, marking, lighting, work zones and NPDES requirements.
• Drive to and from City work sites. Perform additional duties, as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs.
• In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
• Complete required trainings as specifiedwithin the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Four (4) years progressively responsible sub-professional civil engineering work involving field duties, two (2) of which must have been directly related to road, drainage and utility constructions; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid driver license. Must obtain State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
LEVEL I :
(All must be obtained within one (1) year of employment)

• Florida Association of Code Enforcement Level I Certification
• FDEP Erosion Control Inspector and Stormwater Inspector Certification
• FDOT MOT Certification
• Completion of IMSA Level I Signs & Markings
• Completion of IMSA Level II Signs & Markings (Must complete within two (2) years)
• Concrete Construction Special Inspector
• CTQP Asphalt Level I Certification

LEVEL II :
(Employee will receive a 5% in-band increase when they progress from a level I to a level II)

• Florida Association of Code Compliance Level II
• Water Distribution System Operator III
• Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Training
• Nuclear Density Troxler Certification
• CTQP Earthworks Level I Certification

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
