SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

Must be flexible and willing to work nights.

  • Prepare and paint the IPS buildings and other work necessary to the execution of this task.
  • Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Prepares and paints all surfaces interior and exterior - this includes scraping loose paint, puttying, caulking, sanding, cleaning (with solvents and solutions), moving furniture, removing things from walls, covering floors and items with drop cloths, masking and removing masking.
  • Strips, stains and varnishes wood.
  • Matches colors and mixing paints, using a tinting machine and shaker.
  • Uses various spraying operations on jobs, including brush and roller.
  • Sprays operations including ceilings, walls, lockers, lot lining machines, etc.
  • Erects and checks scaffold, ladders, staging units, using bucket trucks, articulated-boom lifts, scissors-lifts.
  • Repairs and installs vinyl wall covering.
  • Re-glazes drinking fountains.
  • Lays out and lines parking lots (this also involve sweeping and scraping dirt off lots)
  • Paints letters on lots as well as handicapped markings.
  • Maintains spray equipment by cleaning, repairing, replacing hoses, tips, etc.; troubleshoots sprayer problems, replaces filters.
  • Cleans, lays out and lines chalkboards - involves grids and special types of lines.
  • Assists in the layout and painting of graphics on walls and floors.
  • Acts as a group leader or foreman, and helps with necessary paperwork when necessary.
  • Cleans shop, arranges shelves, restocks materials.
  • Drives truck (involves loading and unloading materials)
  • Cleans and removes graffiti from all types of surfaces.
  • Power washes surfaces in preparation for finishing.
  • Works on lead abatement.
  • Lays out and relines gym floor.
  • Opens buildings (alarm, keys, etc.).
  • Paints pools (diving boards and swimming lanes).
  • Strips, stains and varnishes wood.
  • Electrostatic sprays of lockers and library stacks.
  • Prepares (by etching) and epoxy paints floors.
  • Removes and replace switch plates and pictures from wall.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

One year certificate from college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be willing to obtain and maintain an Operator Safety Training Course card, and a Respirator Fit Test card.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee will sometime work in a boiler room and use the following equipment i.e. sanders, leaf blower, gas-powered sprayers.
