Part Time - Public Works Equipment Operator I

Maintains and operates several types of motorized equipment in repair of city infrastructure and facilities; undertakes a variety of maintenance activities pertaining to public works operations and services; ensure the safety of crew members and the general public; provides support to the Streets & Drainage Superintendent and Foreman. Operate a variety of motorized equipment such as front-end loaders, asphalt pavers, motor graders, gradalls, backhoes, dump trucks, rollers, street sweepers, trenchers, bush-hogs, skid steers, tractors with various attachments, and other related maintenance and construction equipment; operate a variety of hand tools; some equipment requires specialized certification and training for proper operation.
Perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the completion of road repair and maintenance, drainage areas, facilities and other areas as assigned.
Loads and hauls fill, rock, asphalt and other road patch materials. Assists in road and street patch operations and tree trimming.
Works with asphalt, concrete and other street repair and road building materials.
Repair electrical components, wiring; replace bulbs on streetlights as needed.
Perform repair and maintenance on street signs when faded, damaged and/or stolen.
Performs duties requiring the use of hand tools, shovels, rakes, files, pliers, ratchet and wrenches.
Prepares assigned equipment for safe and efficient operating condition and accurately documents inspections prior to and after use.
Perform all assigned tasks while adhering to the highest safety standards; work to remove any unsafe working conditions; assist with set-up of traffic cones and barriers as needed.
Cleans roadways of debris; flag traffic, as necessary.
Clean and maintain order in the Service Center.
Respond to citizen inquiries and/or complaints in a courteous and timely manner. .
Performs other job duties as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Knowledge of operation and routine maintenance of light and moderately heavy equipment.
Knowledge of occupational safety rules, practices and traffic laws.
Skill in the safe operation of equipment in rough, uneven or slippery ground conditions.
Ability to communicate the safe use of equipment to other division employees.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor and strenuous work in all weather conditions.
Ability to work regularly scheduled hours.
Ability to operate hand and power tools.
Ability to operate light trucks and dump trucks.

High school diploma or G.E.D. Three (3) years experience in semi-skilled manual labor and the use and operation of light and moderately heavy diesel or gasoline powered equipment and trucks.
