Forests The Roadway Construction Inspector will play a vital role in ensuring the quality of construction activities for road projects in the western and central US This position requires building strong working relationships with contractors subconsultants and state DOT or FHWA staff and observing construction processes to ensure compliance with safety protocols and project specifications Working closely with a site project engineer and DOT or FHWA project managers the Roadway Construction Inspector will help maintain clear expectations for work quality efficiency and technical development This role requires effective communication of technical requirements and deliverables to contractors and clients Key Responsibilities Understand and address client and customer needs while ensuring safety protocols are followed at all timesComplete and submit all required documentation including daily Inspectors Daily ReportsReview Contractors Daily Reports Quality Control Supervisors Daily Reports and all field documentation for accuracy and completenessPerform inspections to ensure quality workmanship including field measurements of construction materials and productsMonitor construction Contractors quality control operations traffic control and special environmental contract requirementsIdentify changes errors or adjustments to contract documents and recommend corrective actions to the Project EngineerTrack and monitor the construction Contractors project scheduleStep in to perform Project Engineer duties in their absenceCompetencies Knowledge of inspection practices for roadway construction includingCompaction gradation asphalt paving concrete compressive and flexural and reinforcement methodsSurveying drainage structures riprap placement and subgrade stabilizationTraffic safety erosion control landscaping mulching and seedingEarthwork grading and highway materials testingStructural concrete steel construction and post tensioned concreteSubgrade and base course construction and pavement preservation chip seals slurry sealsBridge construction tunnel grouting rock bolting and retaining wallsWetlands mitigation recycled asphalt construction and underground utilitiesConstruction staking pavement striping and sanitary sewer systemsFamiliarity with contract plans and specifications for highway constructionKnowledge of OSHA guidelines and safe work practicesProficiency in highway construction inspection services including asphalt concrete bridge drainage and moreMinimum Qualifications Construction Inspector II7 10 years of progressively responsible experience in highway construction inspection orNICET Level III Certification Construction with 5 years of relevant experience orEngineering degree with 5 years of applicable experienceStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to meet internal requirements for operating company vehicles maintain a valid drivers license and have an insurable driving recordWillingness to travel to remote job sites across the western US often for extended periodsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Word Excel Outlook TeamsCompensation 35hr 70hr The expected salary
