What you can expect as a Lead Sheet Metal Technician at West Star:

This position requires an advanced knowledge of aircraft structures, fastening systems, procedures and techniques. They will work closely with Lead Technicians to organize manpower and set priorities for involved projects. They must be competent at working from drawings, blueprints and written instructions. They may be required to work independently or lead small projects. Supervision of the team and direction of project flow will be a primary function. Overall coordination of workflow for the project will also be a primary function. They will be required to work independently and lead multiple projects.

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Perform involved, extensive and precise sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, cutting on airframe and associated components.
  • Maintain quality control on all aspects of assigned projects.
  • Supervise, instruct and train assigned crew members.
  • Coordinate with other crews working on aircraft minimize interference and ensure smooth work flow.
  • Provide input to and cooperate with Engineering and Quality Assurance in development and documentation of modifications and repairs.
  • Address minor disciplinary issues and problem resolution.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

What youll need to bring with you:

Your Education :

A High school diploma or equivalent, and Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred. A valid drivers license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience :

3-5 years experience in aircraft maintenance and sheet metal repair preferred.

Your Initiative:

Were looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.

Your Sense of Responsibility:

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.

Notify the supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.

Must have reliable transportation to get to work each day.

Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.

Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements

Lifts 50 lbs.

Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.

Climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas

Standing for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements

Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.

Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.

Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision

Work under supervision of assigned supervisor.

May be directed to supervise other technicians in specific jobs.

Work with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.

Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.

Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.

Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.

Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
