The Assistant Superintendent of Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance plays a key leadership role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of LRV operations. This position assists with managing preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and servicing of LRVs and equipment , while also administering budgets, developing and implementing maintenance policies, and optimizing resources. Additionally, the role involves supervising staff, implementing best practices, and ensuring compliance with all regulations . Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- Associate degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Transportation Management, or a related field. Directly related experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience:
- Seven (7) years of experience in heavy or light rail vehicle maintenance, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role
- Three (3) years of electro-mechanical maintenance experience
- Experience managing preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and repairs for transit vehicles and equipment.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, rail transit operations, and equipment maintenance
- Experience in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues related to LRV maintenance.

Background Investigation:

Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Arizona Driver's License with the ability to maintain insurability under Valley Metro's vehicle insurance policy.
- Supervises and manages a 24/7 maintenance operation, responding to emergency calls as necessary.
- Manages employees, including assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring proper training, and making hiring, disciplinary, and termination recommendations.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises the maintenance, inspections, and repair of light rail vehicles and related equipment.
- Develops and implements comprehensive inspection and preventive maintenance programs to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Supervises consultants and contractors, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to project timelines.
- Enforces safety protocols, conduct safety training, and ensure compliance with public safety and security procedures.
- Diagnoses and resolve complex technical issues related to LRV maintenance, ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Serves as a liaison between internal departments, public agencies, external organizations, and stakeholders.
- Assists in the development and management of departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and recommend equipment purchases.
- Conducts data analysis and make policy recommendations for improving maintenance operations and service reliability.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
