Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage groups of student employees engaged on a variety of projects.
- Project research and analysis including but not limited to gathering existing entitlement, policy, social, cultural, ecological, and economic information related to urban areas, campuses or individual properties.
- Graphic representation of design ideas in digital design platforms in 2D, 3D, and AR.
- Stakeholder and user research and engagement through meetings, workshops, charrettes, surveys, or other engagement methods.
- Precedent research and analysis.
- Physical representation of design ideas in scaled models and full-scale prototypes.
- Preparation of presentation material for meetings and reports.
- Management of project team research, information, and deliverables in both hard copy and digital formats.
- Coordination of and participation in a project team on a daily basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Environmental Design, Bachelor of Architecture degree or an equivalent design degree.
- Familiarity with the local, social, cultural, political, economic, ecological, and regulatory context in Hawaii.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working productively and collaboratively on project teams.
- Strong design and graphic portfolio.
- Fluency in Rhino, MS Office Software, Adobe Creative Suite, BIM software, rendering software.
Desirable Qualifications
- Excellent design skills evidenced by a strong portfolio of design work.
- Experience working on urban ecological or architectural public-interest design projects.
- Local work experience in the architecture or built environments field.
- Fluency in Rhino, Autodesk Revit, GIS, Grasshopper 3D, Lumion, and energy performance-related software.
- Proficiency in fabrication techniques using laser cutters, CNC machines, and other fabrication shop tools.
- Interest in public interest design and outreach.
- Interest in design education and student mentorship.
