Description

The City of Wentzville is seeking a Civil Engineer to help maintain and improve city infrastructure. This position is responsible for engineering design, field investigations, plan reviews, contract administration, and project management. The ideal candidate will have specialized knowledge of engineering tools, methods, and techniques and will work under moderate supervision to support the city's infrastructure needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review subdivision and commercial development plans to ensure compliance with city standards.
  • Design, review, and manage infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, and parks.
  • Identify infrastructure maintenance needs and develop solutions for long-term improvements.
  • Oversee design contracts and manage capital projects and public works initiatives.
  • Evaluate and process permit applications for utility installations in city rights-of-way.
  • Provide technical engineering expertise and problem-solving support for city infrastructure concerns.
  • Address resident concerns by assessing infrastructure, recommending solutions, and coordinating with relevant departments.
  • Monitor projects for safety concerns and suggest process improvements as needed.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications - Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field required.

  • Associate degree along with related professional experience may be considered.

  • Additional job experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Missouri Professional Engineer license desired

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Thorough understanding of public infrastructure for both construction and maintenance, including streets, sidewalks, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water distribution.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public works operations.
  • Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS software and basic knowledge of office equipment and machines.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, and to support comprehensive reporting.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret and follow policies.
  • Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.
  • Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently under moderate supervision and to collaborate with others.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty. Job requires being reliable, responsible and dependable.
