PURPOSE The Islander Housing Plumber, plans and performs preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing systems. Maintains the inspection of buildings. JOB DESCRIPTION Functional Area 1: Plumbing Percent Effort: 80% Maintains and repairs general plumbing components to include toilets, urinals, faucets, hose bibs, and drains and all other aspects of residential and commercial plumbing systems. Installs, repairs, or replaces domestic hot and cold-water lines. Research catalogs and vendor services for complex and/or customized system retrofits. Operate a TAMUCC vehicle and/or golf cart to navigate to and from worksites. Functional Area 2: Maintenance Percent Effort: 15% Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs indicated or according to work orders. Leads troubleshooting efforts and repairs sewer, water, and gas distribution systems. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Interprets and applies mechanical and structural blueprints to plan plumbing repairs and modifications. In coordination with management, assigns to and tracks corrective and preventive maintenance tasks given to subordinate plumbers. Functional Area 3: Other Percent Effort: 5% Provides sketches and dimensions used by drafters to create plans for subcontractor work. Responds to emergency calls as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED Six (6) years of trades experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Additional experience/education may be considered as a substitute for the minimum qualifications required: Ten (10) years of full-time experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Associate's degree with four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Possession of a current Texas Plumbing License issued by TSBPE Maintain a valid Driver License. Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, and contractors. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, and work in cramped or awkward positions for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Estimate jobs, layout and material selection. Interpret plumbing and mechanical system building prints; c) Lead troubleshooting and repair efforts on water, gas. Troubleshoot sewage systems; e) Lead junior technicians in complex repair work. SALARY: up to $23.83/hourly. $49,556.40/annually, approximately.
