Job Summary: Civil Construction Inspector
Our client is seeking experienced Civil Construction Inspectors to support a range of public infrastructure projects. These professionals will be responsible for conducting detailed field inspections and ensuring construction work meets established standards, plans, and safety requirements. The ideal candidates are self-sufficient, knowledgeable in civil construction practices, and comfortable working in the field on active job sites.
This role is onsite in Portland, Oregon.
Civil Construction Inspector Responsibilities
Review engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents prior to and during construction to ensure compliance and clarify requirements for contractors.
Conduct daily inspections on public infrastructure projects including roadways, utilities, pipelines, structures, and other civil improvements.
Monitor quality of materials, adherence to plans and specifications, and conformance to grade, slope, and alignment standards.
Track construction methods and document field activities in detailed daily reports.
Address public and contractor inquiries, investigate concerns or complaints related to active projects, and provide technical guidance.
Verify contractor safety practices, including safe excavation, traffic control, and job site protocols.
Observe installation of underground utilities, street surfaces, sidewalks, curbs, structural components, pumping systems, and other features.
Facilitate testing of materials and verify results align with project standards.
Participate in final walk-throughs, measure completed work, and support documentation for contractor payments.
Civil Construction Inspector Qualifications
Solid understanding of civil construction methods, equipment, and materials used in public works infrastructure.
Familiarity with construction contract administration, safety standards, and quality control processes.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, survey data, and technical specifications.
Proficient in documenting daily field activities, construction progress, and site conditions.
Strong mathematical, analytical, and communication skills.
Proven ability to collaborate with contractors, project managers, community stakeholders, and municipal staff.
Skilled in using tools commonly associated with construction inspection and site assessment.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Required Training & Certifications (prior to start):
OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety (within the past 3 years).
Confined Space Hazard Recognition & Evaluation (within the past 3 years).
Trenching and Excavation Safety Awareness (within the past 3 years).
Current First Aid/CPR certification.
Traffic Control and Flagger certification.
Erosion Control certification.
ODOT General Construction Inspector certification.
