The City of Roanoke is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Maintenance Technician III in the Transportation Division. This position plays a key role in maintaining the safety and quality of our streets and public infrastructure.
As a Maintenance Technician III, you will perform skilled work involving the operation of heavy motorized equipment to support roadway maintenance and repair. Equipment may include an asphalt distributor, dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, large motor grader, and various hand tools. Your responsibilities will include repairing alleys, road shoulders, medians, curbs, and sidewalks, as well as performing routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
In the absence of a supervisor, you may be asked to lead or operate independently on a street maintenance crew, demonstrating your ability to manage tasks and ensure quality work. This position also supports snow removal operations and responds to emergency maintenance tasks, which may require occasional work during nights, weekends, or holidays.
You will be responsible for maintaining accurate logs, checklists, and pre-trip inspection sheets as part of daily operations. Flexibility is important, as additional tasks supporting the division may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Three to five years of related experience and/or training in roadway maintenance or a similar trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) without an E restriction, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment
Ability to obtain a Tanker Endorsement (N) within six months of employment may also be required
