Were hiring a skilled mechanic to join our Fleet Maintenance Division in ensuring safe and optimal operation of all City vehicles and equipment . As the Mechanic II, you will perform preventative maintenance and diagnose , and repair city-operated machinery, ranging from small motors and tires to light fleets and other systems. Youll provide guidance to Mechanic I positions and work with the Senior Mechanic and Fleet Supervisor on medium duty, heavy duty, and major mechanical repairs. What Youll Do in This Role:
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic defects in automotive and light equipment.
- Collaborate with colleagues and the Fleet Supervisor to diagnose and resolve defects in medium and heavy-duty equipment.
- Perform minor and major vehicle and equipment repairs, including engine overhauls and chassis, suspension, air conditioning, and electrical repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on vehicles per manufacturer recommendations and city specifications.
- Analyze vehicle and equipment failures, determine problems and causes and recommend solutions.
- Complete records and reports to track maintenance, repairs and parts used.
- Fabricate and weld parts to repair or improve operations.
- Provide high-quality customer service to all City departments.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area for safe and efficient work process.
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A valid CDL license with bus and airbrake endorsements.
- Three years of automotive mechanical repair experience.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of internal combustion and diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and computer diagnostics for vehicles.
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematic wiring diagrams, and using diagnostic laptop and code extractors.
- Obtain and maintain a minimum of nine (9) ASE certifications applicable to the City fleet.
